• 50 Simpler Presets The third edition of the Traces series for Live 7 contains 50 Simpler presets, created from a small selection of drone samples and long waveforms. On top of the 50 Simpler presets, we also included 20 bonus patches that feature Simpler in Multisample Mode. The sounds in this Live Pack are mainly atmospheric pads and dark growling drones.
BCR Performer is an application that acts as a driver for the Behringer BCR2000 MIDI Controller. One of the strong points of the BCR is the fact that it updates the LED's on the knobs and buttons based on information received from Audio/MIDI Software. This means that unlike normal knobs, the knobs on the BCR are always updated to be at the correct value. If you assign a knob on the BCR to the Filter Cutoff of a synth, the host will in turn send a message to the BCR to make sure the correct value is displayed on the LED's around a knob.
This works within a single BCR preset, but when you work with multiple BCR presets, only the preset that is in front will receive updates. This is where the BCR Performer Application comes into play.
I've used this trick a lot, but its one of those things that is either a bug or something inexplicable.
The trick is the use of overlapping notes on Arpeggiators chained in parallel. When 2 Arpeggiators are producing the same notes, it will sound like there is only 1 Arpeggiator at work (as it should). But what happens if overlapping notes have different velocities?
I've discovered a way to make a chain the master chain. That means, I can make a note decay from 127 to 0 over 5 seconds and let another Arpeggiator take over when the sound is completely decayed. All you need to do is move around a few chains and hope for the best. But once you got it set up as you want it to be, you can save it as a MIDI Effect Rack or Instrument preset for later use. Thats pretty much the craziest thing you'll find in the Traces 1 and MIDI Muses Live packs. This little trick has only been a secret for so long, only because I'm not sure how to explain it. I made this video to clarify this and illustrate it with an example, so I hope it leaves you enlightened rather than confused.
I recently posted a few tips about default presets , this video is a quick refresher about Drum Racks and default presets for those who prefer the videos over the articles. A High Quality version of the video can be downloaded from the Vimeo page.
You're supposed to hear a drum sample in the end, but it got lost when I normalized the audio with my voice. Since its only 2 seconds of the video, it isn't much of a problem.
Ah, there is nothing like a good consistent heat wave to completely kill my productivity. But the weather in western Europe is back to its crappy self, so its time for some action.
During the past few weeks, I've kept on testing my new controller setup which at the moment consists out of a BCR2000 and a custom application.
The application is stable and almost fool proof. I'm very happy with the results.
